Reports from the Field/Battleground Updates - The Kerry Campaign in Wisconsin

William, Scott and I are heading to Wisconsin to help Kerry win the Presidency and take this country back from the special interests. This will be our daily Blog. It is my intention to file reports on our activities every single day from 10/17/04 – 11/03/04. This will be our “Report from the Field”, if you will. Here you can find out what kind of exciting activities we are up to in Wisconsin. You can also get our take on how the campaign is fairing in this great state.

Daily Report from the Battleground State of Wisconsin - 10.28.04

For several days, my friends around the state have been reporting a surge for Kerry. Our door to door canvassing throughout the neighborhoods of Wisconsin is going very well. In addition, Kerry signs and bumper stickers are clearly outnumbering those of the Bushistas. Bush’s spending and almost daily appearances in the state should be giving him an advantage, it is not.

Now the nationally respected Zogby Poll has Kerry at 50% and Bush at 46% in Wisconsin. This confirms what folks are reporting from around this State.

Be assured my friends, we will keep working here in the great State of Wisconsin until the polls close on Election Day.

If you have any comments on this post - send me an e-mail at unionman11@yahoo.com, and I will post it.

Goodnight Friends, and God Bless you!

This is a message from Terri Armstrong of the Kerry Travelers. God bless everyone of them:

Hello Robert,

I came across your blog and thought I'd drop a line. I, too, as my AOL account says, am a Kerry Traveler working to take my country back from the dictatorship which has taken us hostage.

My husband and I are part of the Los Angeles Grassroots group that has taken Nevada by storm. We have done 48% of the work done in the state of Nevada. In fact, the DNC had to rethink strategy because we have done more than they thought we would be able to do.

There are 50 core travelers (others come on a few sporadically) that go to Las Vegas every weekend, by bus and minivans, and work at the state party headquarters or various union halls (something dear to your heart!) We have registered more Democrats than Republicans-if we can just get them to the polls, we will win back Nevada.

Our first trip began with 27 volunteers. Then, we grew to 90. Then over 100. This past weekend, we had 400 and we are looking to 500 this weekend. Many (around 400) are staying through the election.

Our core group has decided we need to stay together. We live all over the Los Angeles County, so each area basically has a "monitor." We've got to keep our eyes on the school boards and judges. We will be banning together in two years to fight for a Congressional District that seems hopeless. Our little group includes writers, professors of political science, people who marched in the 60s, younger people, older people, people who have been lifelong friends, Vietnam Veterans, school teachers, etc... The one thing we all have in common is our desire to never give up the fight, especially since the neo-cons and religious fundamentalists have taken over our school boards, our courtrooms, our government and our lives.

On our adventures in Nevada, I personally have run across several examples of voter intimidation. We are fighting hard to combat this, escorting people to the polls (they have early voting) taking meticulous notes and calling the DNC reporting everything.

While canvassing, I came across another canvasser working for MoveOn/Planned Parenthood. As it turns out, he was recently back from Afghanistan and Iraq, where he was an officer. Originally from Idaho, he had been a Republican all his life, but getting out of Idaho and seeing the rest of the world had made him rethink the world. While he still holds the same beliefs (gun ownership, pro-choice) the way he thought about these issues had changed. He moved to New York, but is currently living in Las Vegas, working to turn the state back to blue. I had just run across an angry Vietnam Veteran, so bumping into this guy was a blessing. He made a bee line to discuss the registered Democrat veteran's support for shrub (I just can't bring myself t say President Bush, it tastes bad in my mouth.)

I think what you are doing is great. Times like these call for people to make sacrifices, like leaving your home for months to work in a swing state. I would like to thank you on behalf of all "Kerry Travelers" in your efforts to take back our country.

Kerry On Fighting the Good Fight.

Peace,
Terri Armstrong
